Sunspot seismic halos generated by fast MHD wave refraction

چکیده
Aims. We suggest an explanation for the high-frequency power excess surrounding active regions known as seismic halos. Methods. We use numerical simulations of magneto-acoustic wave propagation in magnetostatic sunspot model. Results. We propose that seismic halos can be caused by the additional energy injected by high-frequency fast mode waves refracted in the higher atmosphere due to the rapid increase of the Alfvén speed. Our model qualitatively explains the magnitude of the halo and allows to make some predictions of its behavior that can be checked in future observations.

Relationship between head wave amplitudes and seismic refraction velocities to detect lateral variation in the refractor
Refractor ambiguities are big problem in seismic refraction method especially in seismic engineering. There can be hidden subsurface geological phenomena such as hidden faults and shear zones which are not simply predicted by the travel-time graph or some geophysical methods. Head wave amplitudes are used to show the resolution of refractor ambiguities and the existence of anisotropy in complex...
متن کاملMHD mode coupling in the neighbourhood of a 2D null point
Context. At this time there does not exist a robust set of rules connecting low and high β waves across the β ≈ 1 layer. The work here contributes specifically to what happens when a low β fast wave crosses the β ≈ 1 layer and transforms into high β fast and slow waves. Aims. The nature of fast and slow magnetoacoustic waves is investigated in a finite β plasma in the neighbourhood of a twodime...
متن کاملHelioseismology of Sunspots: Confronting Observations with Three-Dimensional MHD Simulations of Wave Propagation
The propagation of solar waves through the sunspot of AR 9787 is observed using temporal cross-correlations of SOHO/MDI Dopplergrams. We then use three-dimensional MHD numerical simulations to compute the propagation of wave packets through self-similar magneto-hydrostatic sunspot models. The simulations are set up in such a way as to allow a comparison with observed cross-covariances (except i...
متن کاملJoint inversion of ReMi dispersion curves and refraction travel times using particle swarm optimization algorithm
Shear-wave velocity ( ) is an important parameter used for site characterization in geotechnical engineering. However, dispersion curve inversion is challenging for most inversion methods due to its high non-linearity and mix-determined trait. In order to overcome these problems, in this study, a joint inversion strategy is proposed based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The ...

We developed a three dimensional linear code for simulations of MHD waves in a gravitationally stratified medium with strong gradients of pressure and density in the presence of non-uniform background magnetic field and background flows. The code is suitable for analysis of excitation, propagation, and transformation of MHD waves in realistic models of sunspots. Such a code can be used for prod...
